Health and Physical Education

Campbell High School values studies in Health and Physical Education and during this program of learning, students refine their understanding of how they can contribute to individual and community health and wellbeing. Students have frequent opportunities to participate in physical activities and  to value the importance of active recreation as a way of enhancing their health and wellbeing throughout their lives.

In each semester, all students in all years at Campbell High School participate in a series of compulsory health and physical education units.

Please Note: Health & Physical Education is compulsory for all students at Campbell High School. 

Each year Campbell High School students participate in a number of ACT School Sporting Competitions. These competitions are advertised on each of the Year Level Google Classrooms, promoted in the morning student notices and school newsletter. Students are asked to register their interest when a sport is advertised which is then followed by trials and training to select a team to compete.

Campbell high’s base colours are navy, gold and white. Students are asked to wear navy shorts and socks for school sporting events. Each student will be able to borrow

Year 9/10 Healthy & Physical Education: Classic & CSL

These two subjects are counted as 'Core Health & Physical Education (HPE)' allowing students to continue to choose two other electives to study each semester. These classes are by application only for Year 9 and will follow the HPE curriculum similar to the other core PE classes. Students apply to be part of the program for 2 years (Year 9 and Year 10)

CLASSIC stands for Campbell Leadership And Sports Studies In Curriculum. This is a unique 2-year elective at Campbell High School, that is an amazing opportunity to develop yourself as a leader and undertake projects that make the world a better place. CLASSIC has three core components/lenses in which we develop our students' leadership skills: leadership development theory in which we focus on leadership both domestic and international, Inspirational leaders, Men’s health and development, Principles of leadership and “Making a Difference”. Each of these units has enriching and engaging sub topics to further understand the importance of leadership throughout history. Practical sports lessons in which we implement what we have learnt throughout our theory to help demonstrate our effectiveness as young and aspiring leaders. In our practical lessons we will also engage in more multi-inclusive sports such as: Goalball, Blind Cricket and many more sports. Lastly is engaging with the community, throughout the year we will have multiple opportunities to engage with the community from incursions to fun and supportive excursions, fundraisers and more! It is a class of like-minded people, who learn skills based on leadership theory, service to our community, sports development and teamwork. As part of CLASSIC you will regularly lead the classes, and this includes regular sports and fitness sessions. You will undertake both theory and practical sports lessons. CSL stands for Campbell Sports Leadership. This is a unique 2-year elective at Campbell High School, that is an amazing opportunity to develop yourself as a leader and undertake projects that make the world a better place. CSL revolves around developing student leadership skills throughout three “lenses”: leadership development theory, practical sports lessons and engaging with the community. It is a class of like-minded people, who learn skills based on leadership theory, service to our community, sports development and teamwork. As part of CSL you will regularly lead the classes, and this includes regular sports and fitness sessions. You will undertake both theory and practical sports lessons. Health & Physical Education Elective Program

Year 8: Introduction to Outdoor Recreation

This is a specialist Year 8 Elective to allow students an opportunity to partake in the Outdoor Education program who may have conflicting electives in year 9 and 10. This introductory Outdoor Recreation unit, aims to give students opportunities to participate in activities that build a base of engaging in the outdoor environment and getting out of their comfort zone. Year 9/10: Outdoor Education 1

This is an introductory Outdoor Education unit, which aims to create a base of attitude, knowledge and skills necessary for the safe enjoyment of the outdoors. This semester students will be specifically studying roping safety and activities including rock climbing, abseiling and caving, wilderness first aid, and water based safety and activities including surfing, stand up paddle boarding and kayaking. Please note: Outdoor Ed 1 does not count as a Health & Physical Education Class and there is a fee associated with this subject

Year 10: Outdoor Education 2

This is an advanced Outdoor Education unit, that builds on knowledge and skills students are developing for the safe enjoyment and pursuit of adventure in the outdoors. Successful completion of Outdoor Education 1 is required before applying for this elective. This semester, students will be studying safety, first aid, activity preparation, and teamwork and cooperation skills that underpin a variety of outdoor recreation activities. Throughout the semester, topics covered include: bushwalking, minimal impact practices, alpine responsibility, cross country skiing safety and technique, abseiling, canyoning, wakeboarding and white water rafting. Year 9/10: Advanced Physical Education

This is a unique 2-year elective that is an amazing opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing sport based subjects at college or considering a career in the industry. Students interested can do 1 or all of the units on offer based on their interests.

Unit 1: Fitness for Life: Students will be introduced to a range of activities that will enable them to assess their own fitness levels, as well as learn how to achieve and maintain these levels over the course of their lives. If you are considering a career path in the Fitness Industry as a Personal Trainer, working in a gym setting or have a general interest in working out, this is the elective for you.

Please note: Fitness for Life does not count as a Health & Physical Education Class

Unit 2: Exercise Science: In this elective, students will have the opportunity to learn about the human body systems related to physical activity and movement. They will look at how the manipulation of speed and force can affect movement and the impact this has on the human body. They will use ICT to analyse movement patterns and use the information to enhance performance. They will learn the foundations of how the body responds and adapts to the physical and mental demands exercise or physical activity places on it. Students have an opportunity to learn for their own health benefits or to make a career in the fitness and wellness industries. Jobs in the arena of exercise science aim to provide services or promote individual health, fitness and wellness by way of physical activity.

Please note: Exercise Science does not count as a Health & Physical Education Class

Unit 3: Sports Coaching and Administration: Students will be introduced to the organisation and management side of the sports industry. They will participate in a range of activities that will enable them to learn some of the theory behind the role of a coach and put it into practice with local primary schools. As well as learn how to contribute to the planning and delivery of sporting events and competitions. If you are considering a career path in the sports industry as a coach, sports development, event planner/manager, venue attendant  or have a general interest in sport, this is the elective for you.

Please note: Sports Coaching & Administration does not count as a Health & Physical Education Class

Unit 4: Recreation and Leisure: Students will be introduced to the planning and delivery of unique sports away from the typical sports played in PE classes. They will participate in researching local community recreation and leisure activities, along with taking the lead in organising and planning for a class excursion to participate in the activity. If you are considering a career path in the sports industry as an event planner, social/community sport liaison, venue attendant or have a general interest in sport, this is the elective for you.

Please note: Recreations & Leisure does not count as a Health & Physical Education Class and there is a fee associated with this subject due to regular excursions.
